Boot Camp II for School Council members and interested parents

CSPA and PIC present Boot Camp II, an opportunity for school council members and any interested parents to come together and learn.  The event takes place on Monday February 12, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm at St. Patrick's High School (2525 Alta Vista Drive).  Guest speaker Jacqui Strachan from People for Education has over 20 years of experience working on and with school council and will share her wealth of knowledge.  You can attend the event in person or listen in from home via the webinar.  Please click here for more information.  Register at: bit.ly/BootCampFeb18

OCSB has partnered with COPA to bring valuable resources into our schools that will support safe and inclusive learning environments. Learn more about COPA and the "A Circle of Caring" project and how it can support parents and families.

Skating Party at General Burns Park on Saturday February 3 from 12 to 2pm

Come on out and enjoy winter at the annual Skating Party at General Burns Park, 86 Argue Dr. on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 12 to 2 p.m. Play fun winter games, try snow shoeing, or just come for a skate, then warm up with FREE chili, hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee. Please wear a helmet on the ice and remember to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Debra Dynes Food Bank. General Burns Community Association Christmas Party

On Saturday December 9 the General Burns Community Association will hold a Christmas Party from 2 to 4pm at the General Burns Lodge located at 86 Argue Drive.
Children can meet Santa Claus, play games, make crafts and decorate cookies. This is a great chance for adults to meet their neighbours and enjoy some refreshments. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
This event is free thanks to the support of Councillor Keith Egli.
Please bring a food donation for the Debra Dynes Food Bank.

OCSB Annual Christmas Concert

Please join the OCSB Children's, Boys' and Chamber Choirs and guests for their annual Christmas Concert "GLORIA!" on Monday December 18, 2017 at 7pm at St. Basil's Church (Maitland Avenue, north of the 417 exit).  Tickets are $15/each and are available at the door. Refreshments will be served.

Kindergarten Information Fair

Do you know someone with a child turning 4 in 2018? Kindergarten registration time is just around the corner.  Drop by to learn more at the Kindergarten Information Fair.  There will be representation from the OCSB as well as the other three school boards and private schools in Ottawa.  Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and get information about the various community resources available to families.

Special Education and Needs Workshops November 6 and November 30

Two upcoming workshops are being offered through CSPA:

Monday November 6, 2017 from 6:30 - 9:00pm at Notre Dame High School (710 Broadview Avenue)
Special Education and Your Child - Workshops for Parents of Children with Special Needs
Choose from 2 options from sessions 1 - 4 (each is 1 hour in length) or choose only session 5 (2 hours in length)
1. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies and SEL language in the classrooms
2. Deep Learning: learning environments for students with special needs
3. Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) - Unlocking the Curriculum
4. Literacy and Numeracy for students with ADHD
5. Assistive Technology (2 hour session)

Advocating for your Child with Special Needs
Would you like to learn how to advocate more effectively for your child with special needs?
Louise McGoey, former chair of the Ottawa Catholic SEAC (Special Education Advisory Committee), will provide participants with strategies for effective advocacy.  Learn about the importance of knowing what your goals are for your child, how to communicate effectively with school and board staff and how to prepare for productive meetings.  Presented by SEAC and CSPA.
