New OCSB Catholic Elementary School Coming!

We have received notice that the Ministry of Education has approved the reopening of the

former Century Public School (8 Redpine Drive) as an elementary school of the OCSB.

Following the Board meeting, a dedicated webpage will be created on the Board website

Report Cards

On June 24 your child's report card (Grades 1-6) or Communication of Learning (Kindergarten) will be placed in the Parent Portal. It will also be coming home as a paper copy with your child. As Principal, my signature validates that this is an official provincially sanctioned report

card. If there are any errors on the report card related to assessment or comments, please review these with the classroom educator. As always, ongoing communication with your child’s educators pertaining to their progress remains important.

Together we are partners in your child’s education and we are committed to educating your child through our strategic commitment of ‘Be Well’, ‘Be Community’ and ‘Be Innovative’. When reviewing this final report card with your child, we encourage you to focus first on the strengths and achievements your child has shown over the past ten months. Every success, big or small, is a reflection of their hard work. Looking ahead to the next school year, we also ask that you review the "next steps" provided. These recommendations offer a great roadmap for how we can work together to support continued learning and confidence over the summer and into the fall.

Understanding Your Child's Achievements

The elementary report card uses a levelled scale to describe how well your child is meeting the expectations of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. The marks are derived from evidence obtained through a triangulation of data taken from conversations, observations and products from your child throughout the term. Here's what each letter grade means:

A- to A+ - Level 4: Excelling: Student work at this level demonstrates that they are excelling in their learning. They have a deep understanding of the curriculum expectations. This means your child doesn't just follow instructions, they take what they’ve learned and apply it to new, complex, or creative situations without needing much help.

B- to B+ - Level 3: Achieving: Student work at this level demonstrates that they are meeting expectations in achieving the provincial standard. This is the target for all students. A "B" means your child is right where they need to be. They understand the lessons, can do the work accurately, and can apply their skills in the way they were taught.

C- to C+ - Level 2: Approaching: Student work at this level demonstrates that they are approaching the provincial standard of meeting expectations. This means your child understands the basics, but they might be inconsistent. They often need a few reminders or support to get the work done correctly. They are developing the necessary skills and knowledge to make sense of what they are learning so that they can make connections.

D- to D+ - Level 1: Beginning: Student work at this level demonstrates that they are really struggling to meet the grade-level requirements. This means your child is beginning to learn the concepts but needs a lot of teacher support to make connections and finish tasks. There are significant gaps in their understanding which affects their ability to synthesize or remember information.

R (Intensive Support Required): An "R" stands for "Remedial" or "Review." It means your child has not yet shown enough evidence that they understand the basic requirements of the grade level expectations. This is a signal that there are significant gaps in their learning that need to be filled before they can move forward successfully.

In Ontario, a Level 3 (B) is the Provincial Standard. It means your child is successful and prepared for the next grade in that subject area. While we always encourage growth, a "B" is a mark of a student who is doing what they should be doing!

Invitation: Register for OSTA’s First Rider Event for Newly Registered Families

Riding a school bus is an important aspect of your child’s education journey. As part of this journey, Ottawa Student Transportation invites you to attend their First Rider Event held on Sunday, August 23, 2026. All are welcome!

First Rider is a great opportunity for your child(ren) to learn about being safe on their way to and from school. This integrated 45-minute session provides elementary school-age children and their families with the essential skills to navigate their commute safely.

Combining hands-on bus training with interactive pedestrian practice, this comprehensive program ensures a confident start to the school year.

St. Gregory’s School Council Year End Report: 2025-26

St. Gregory Catholic School Council is a volunteer group dedicated to enhancing the school experience for all students and families. Working in partnership with school administration, Council helps strengthen the connection between school and community through fundraising, family engagement, and community-building initiatives.

Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, Council organized and supported a variety of fundraising campaigns and special events that directly benefited students and staff.

Together, our school community helped raise more than $15,000 to enrich learning opportunities, support school priorities, and contribute to improvements that positively impact the entire school community. Council also hosted events that strengthened connections among students, families, and staff, and supported the welcoming spirit that makes St. Gregory such a special place to learn and grow.

Thank you to all families who participated in our School Council survey. Your feedback showed strong overall satisfaction with events, with particular enthusiasm for STEM Night, school dances, and our community BBQs. We also heard valuable suggestions regarding event logistics, food options, and additional activities, which will help guide our planning for next year.

Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to the entire school community for its ongoing support of our fundraising and community-building initiatives. Whether by volunteering, attending events, participating in fundraisers, or sharing feedback, your involvement makes these efforts possible.

Together, we continue to create meaningful opportunities and experiences that enrich school life for all students.

School Council typically meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September through June at 6:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons, with a virtual attendance option available. Information regarding School Council elections and voting member positions is shared with families at the beginning of each school year.

All are welcome to attend meetings and participate in Council activities. We encourage you to consider joining School Council or volunteering at one of our events. Your involvement helps strengthen our school community and makes a meaningful difference in the experiences and opportunities available to our students.
